Angels Roaming

Angels Roaming – Lyrics

[Editorial Comments: The Bible was written to men and is an account of how man was created in God’s eternal image, given dominion since God is a ruling God, and then fell into sin. After Genesis 3 until Revelation 21, God is solving that sin problem. Revelation 21-22 is a taste of what Christians look forward to.

Yet we read about fascinating accounts of spiritual beings—angels for example, who often brought messages from God or were there to judge you. I was reading in Genesis 17:21-19 about an angel that God sent to Hagar after Abraham and Sarah had sent her away. I also recall the account of Elisha where he prayed for God to open the eyes of his servant to see an spiritual army in 2 Kings 6:13-17.

I’m also fascinated by the account of Gabriel informing Mary that the Son of God would be born to her in her virginity, or Zacharias, Balaam, Joseph (the supposed father of Jesus), and even rolling the stone away from the tomb of Christ.

I wanted to do a song as if it were a glimpse, like a window, into the eyes of some of these Bible people to see what they saw or felt what they felt. I simply jumped around accounts to build the song. References are below. I understand that this song would therefore place me “in their shoes” so to speak and utilizes some figurative imagery when interacting with angels and the Spirit to spark the imagination.

The arrangements and music are rather simplistic but hopefully the vocal style makes up for it. I utilized some operatic background highs that included a note technique that my mother (who used to play guitar in rock band in the 1960s) often called the "Western Illinois Flat". I hope you enjoy it.]

Verse I

In the distances (2 Kings 6:16), and at the doorways (Matthew 28:2)

I can see them – peaceful and precious (Luke 1:19)

They’re a light standing in the darkness (Job 38:7)

Open your eyes – breath in their likeness (2 Kings 6:20)

Chorus

And then I saw one turn and approach me (Genesis 21:17)

And I stood in awe as it gave me a blessing (Genesis 21:18)

Verse II

The angel roaming brighter than the heavens (Hebrews 1:7; Revelation 19:17)

Defending people against their evil (Zechariah 12:8)

They have a purpose and it has been granted

Messengers, Protectors of the Holy Bible (Luke 1:38; Hebrews 1:14-2:5)

Chorus

And then I saw one turn and approach me (Genesis 21:17)

And I stood in awe as it gave me a blessing (Genesis 21:18)

Bridge

“Open your eyes and see through the darkness

ride the wind that breathes out the righteous.” (Numbers 22:22-34)

Verse III

I tell you to open your eyes (2 Kings 6:17) and

Let your soul interact with the Spirit

You’ll become as one with the message

And time will no longer be present (Revelation 1:10-1:19)

Chorus

And then I saw one turn and approach me (Genesis 21:17)

And I stood in awe as it gave me a blessing (Genesis 21:18)

And then I saw one turn and protect me (Psalm 91:11)

And I stood in awe as it gave me a blessing (Genesis 21:15-21)
